Besides Referrals, Other Ways to Generate Business

Although the importance of referrals can’t be overstated, they’re only one part of a successful marketing program. Here are some of my favorite ways to generate business outside of referrals:

ONLINE MARKETING

Online marketing encompasses both your web presence and social media marketing. Social media marketing can be as simple as maintaining an active presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. DISPLAY ADVERTISING

Display advertising can mean anything from advertising on a billboard to running digital ads. The key is to identify your targeted market and determine what type of media this market consumes.

Postcards and direct mail can yield fantastic results when targeted to homeowners who you think are ready to sell. Look for FSBO listings or sellers with expired listings. Although display advertising can be expensive, it’s often the most direct and targeted way to get your business in front of new clients. Don’t be afraid to experiment — you may be pleasantly surprised by what you find!

PAY PER RESULT ADVERTISING

Sometimes called “pay per click” advertising, this is directed, usually online advertising via sources like Zillow and Google. In pay per result advertising, you pay when a potential client clicks on a link that you’ve promoted or otherwise paid for. For example, you could initiate an ad campaign on Google where your website appears at or near the top of search results when someone searches the phrase “new homes in [your city].” Every time a user clicks on your ad, you are charged for the click. Pay per result advertising is a fantastic way of targeting clients on the Internet but can also be quite expensive.

Even if your referrals aren’t rolling in every month, deploying a combination of online marketing, display advertising, and pay per result advertising can keep your business humming!
